The Colours Group

The Colours group of Canada was formed in 2008 and a mandate was laid out for an artist collective dedicated to fine art and provocative imagery.

Mission Statement

Central to The Colours Group is the desire to fulfil a unique vision whereby a team of talented artists and experts aim to show the World in a new light by specifically targetting regions that often receive a disroportionate amount of negative publicity or no coverage at all.

In 2009, Colours of Russia was released in response to years of negative imagery of Russia and the documentary has been constantly in the media ever since, challenging out-dated stereotypes that no longer exist. Michael Hockney was invited to be a contributor on the influential ModernRussia.com website in 2010.

In late 2009, The Colours Group founder drew up a list of regions and countries he wanted to cover before 2015. Libya was top of the list and the photographer began making preliminary research for a project. A year later, in early 2011, a unique visit brought him in contact with a very influential Libyan who understood the importance of a Colours documentary on modern Libya.

Through a unique meeting of individuals it is now possible to bring Colours of Libya to life and show modern Libya, and old, to a world audience.
